The C-Crosser breaks new ground for Citroen combining strong styling, practicality and sound green engineering to provide buyers with a sleek, spacious, robust and comfortable car, inside and out.
The front seats can be adjusted for length, height and inclination and can be electrically operated with some options. A heating function for the front two seats is available as an option and is systematically coupled with the leather trim. In row two the seat backs and seat cushions divide 40/60 and for passenger comfort they recline in three positions. Both parts of the bench seat slide independently lengthwise over a distance of 80mm.
With a car designed for adventure, boot capacity is a major issue. The second and third rows of seats fold easily creating an impressive load volume. The C-Crosser has a 510 litre capacity with the second row of seats in operation and an impressive 1686 litres when they are folded away. For versatility and practicality, the boot opens with a split tailgate and the C-Crosser is the only vehicle in its category to offer this. The lower part of the tailgate can withstand loads of 200kg making it possible to slide in heavy objects and to use as an extra platform when preparing equipment.
The second row seats can be folded against the front seats either by means of levers located on either sides of the seats or automatically with a spring mechanism controlled by means of two electrical switches located in the right and left hand side of the boot. Access to the third row of seats is by the tilt and slide action of the second row. The third row lifts easily from the boot floor by pulling on the straps provided. In case of an emergency a manual safety catch in the tailgate allows the boot to be opened from the inside.
Dynamic handling has been a key factor in the design of the C—Crosser. There are new suspension settings for optimised ride and handling, Michelin road tyres for handling, steering response and longevity, improved braking thanks to the addition of dual piston callipers at the front, revised steering to improve comfort regardless of road surface and optimised body rigidity for great road holding.
The suspension consists of strengthening struts at the front and a multi-arm rear axle combined with a wider track, a longer wheelbase and an anti-roll bar with a diameter of 20mm enhancing on-road stability and contributing to active safety. The brakes have 294/24 ventilated discs at the front with dual piston callipers and 302 ventilated discs at the rear. The steering is hydraulic with a coupled pump and assistance varies according to engine speed. This technology ensures safety and driveability at high speed with a firmer steering feel while offering lighter steering for low speed manoeuvres or at a standstill.
The state of the art engine produces an impressive 280lb.ft of torque at just 2000rpm as well as 156bhp (CEE). This powers the C-Crosser from 0-62mph in under 10 seconds and on to a top speed of 124 mph. Boasting nearly 40mpg on the combined cycle, the powerplant emits as little as 191g/km of CO2. Particle emissions are reduced to virtually immeasurable levels thanks to the advanced DPFS, while it can also run on 30% bio-diesel without any modification Fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger, the unit features a third generation common rail injection system that runs at 1800 bar for finer fuel spray. The inclusion of a new combustion chamber – Extreme Conventional Combustion System (ECSS) – optimises the air/fuel mix, while the fitting of a pair of balancer shafts helps to limit vibration.
And with 3 different driving modes available, you have an incredibly flexible driving experience. The C-Crosser has the ability to travel in permanent 2WD, keeping fuel usage and CO2 emissions to a minimum. When conditions become more challenging drivers can opt to use the 4WD mode giving the C-Crosser improved stability. The full lock mode is designed to help in very low grip conditions like mud, snow and ice.
As you would expect from a family car, Citroen has put safety first in the C-Crosser. The Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking while maintaining braking force and vehicle stability during a sudden stop or when braking on a slippery road, allowing the driver to keep control of the vehicle’s direction.
The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) helps the driver to remain in control of the vehicle for as long as possible. When the system detects understeer or oversteer it acts simultaneously with the four-wheel drive electronic control system and the engine to ensure braking with individual wheel-by-wheel application. The electronically controlled traction control system improves traction and handling during acceleration and in corners by reducing wheel slip.
The reinforced body structure and added elements such as door padding help to protect the occupants and the steering column is retractable in the event of impact, reducing the risk of injury to the driver.
Plus the C-Crosser comes with six airbags as standard. Two front, two side and two front/rear curtain. Incorporated into the fascia panel, the front airbags are intended to protect the chest and head of the driver and passenger. They are triggered in the event of violent front impact liable to cause serious injury to the driver and front passenger.
The latest generation transmission system allows the vehicle to be driven in 4WD mode at all times with optimal front/rear torque distribution, thereby ensuring maximum safety thanks to optimised road holding regardless of circumstances. This technology is the most efficient for controlling 4x4 transmissions, particularly compared to systems that operate on the base of a 2WD mode which changes to 4WD only when traction is impaired. Response times are shorter guaranteeing maximum traction virtually instantaneously.
A reversing camera is available as an option . This clever piece of equipment has a lens located under the registration plate and is activated automatically when the reverse gear is engaged. Visual feedback is displayed on the navigation screen and when reversing two green lines superimposed on the image indicate the vehicle’s future position, ground clearance and trajectory according to the angle of the steering wheel.
Colour satellite navigation incorporating a 7 inch 2D touch screen is also available. The 30 GB hard disk contains European cartographic data while reserving a third of its capacity for music storage. The Juke Box function allows the recording of 2500 tracks in MP3 format. On the Exclusive model the 6-disc CD changer is located in the centre console and is loaded via a single slot.
With all of these features you can be sure of driveability, safety and comfort. With its distinctive chevron-embellished bonnet, sloping roofline and eye-catching headlamps, the C-Crosser looks like a Citroen and it drives like one too, presenting a non aggressive design and drive for the SUV market.
